My teaching style is informed by time working in the public education system along with years of playing music in the bluegrass, folk, and old-time community settings.
Lessons support you to deepen your musicianship, both as an individual and group-oriented musician. I’m here to empower you to be your best musical self and to enjoy the gift of playing music with others whether it’s in a jam, with friends, or even in a band.
Private Instrument Instruction: Guitar or Banjo
Banjo lessons: from beginning to advanced instruction on 3 finger (bluegrass) style banjo and beginning to intermediate instruction on clawhammer style banjo.
Guitar lessons: beginning to advanced instruction on rhythm and flat-picking bluegrass, country, and folk style guitar.
Mindful Music
Mindful music: focus on relaxing while playing, finding a comfortable posture, increasing one’s connection to their instrument and connecting with joy and creativity in music.
Musicianship, Songwriting, and Singing
Musicianship: let’s explore the nuances of musical expression! Guaranteed to be nerdy and fun.
Songwriting: we can workshop something you already have going on, or work on developing your creative muscles.
Singing: lessons can cover breathing and basic vocal technique as well as finding and arranging harmonies.
How much do you charge?
Regular lesson rates are on a sliding scale from $85-$125 for an hour lesson, and $45-65 for a 30 minute lesson. I am sometimes able to take folks at a lower rate, depending on my current financial situation. If you feel a strong tug in your heart to work together but are tight on money, feel free to reach out and we can see what might work.
